Ladies and Gentlemen, Children of All Ages, YOU’RE INVITED to Peru, Indiana, the Circus Capital of the World and home to the Peru Amateur Youth Circus and Circus City Festival, Inc.!! From the barn to the big top, the Circus has been a part of Peru, Indiana for over 100 years.

Here’s the skinny on what’s happening (end times are approximate):

According to the website their parade is the longest running circus parade in the United States and second largest parade in Indiana. You have two seating options: Option #1 -- Bring your lawn chair or blanket and cooler and join us on the lawn. We’ll arrive before the parade begins and stake out an area; look for the IA signs. Option #2 – those that like to travel light can purchase $5 reserved bleacher seats on the day of the event (it is suggested you arrive by 9:00 a.m. to get the best seats) and buy lunch from one of the food vendors.

11:30 – 1:45 p.m. FESTIVAL ACTIVITIES / LUNCH Or, if there is interest we can visit the International Circus Hall of Fame located on the old circus winter quarters just 3 miles east of Peru on Old State Route 124. This site is one of 55 National Historic Landmarks in the State of Indiana. Visitors can find out which “Circus Greats” have been enshrined in the International Circus Hall of Fame; see colorful posters, wagons, models and exhibits that bring the circus to life; or check out the miniature replica of the 1934 Hagenbeck-Wallace Circus – complete with all the animals, performers and even the circus parade.

2:00 – 5:00 p.m. AMATEUR YOUTH CIRCUS PERFORMANCE & CIRCUS CITY MUSEUM VISIT Enjoy a three hour long three ring circus complete with clowns, the Peru Circus Band and beautifully costumed entertainers so skilled that many fans find it hard to believe that they are amateurs! Acts include multiple and flying trapeze, aerial ballet, Spanish Web, high wire and more.

The Youth Circus program was established in 1960 to provide the young people of Miami County an opportunity to develop self-worth, poise, responsibility, self-esteem, a spirit of teamwork and lasting friendships through the medium of Circus. The 250 performers (most between the ages of 7 and 21) have made a serious commitment to the show. Practice begins in March then during the July Circus City Festival Days they perform a fairly grueling schedule before heading out for performances in surrounding states and participating in an international competition in Monte Carlo each January.

During circus week only, the Circus City Museum, which is filled with photos, miniatures, displays, and costumes from past circuses, has extended hours before and after each circus performance. Visitors can also enjoy viewing the many circus wagons displayed outside the museum.

Won't know how many are coming for the a.m. activities because RSVPs were optional. Come join us whenever you can. If you have problems finding us call me on my cell phone.

How many others are signed up for this? This may be too long a day for me. May not get there at 9 with long drive too!
