An Otaku's Dream Come True

  • May 15, 2009 · 7:00 PM

This is an Otaku's dream come true. The beginning of what we all hope is a long and fruitful partnership between Sega Game Works and the Indy Anime Underground. Our first viewing is The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and we will likely begin the screening of an ova series as well. With roughly four hours we will leave time for discussion and intermission between screenings. Cosplay is highly encouraged at this meetup, as we have something quite auspicious to celebrate and promote and we may as well do it in true Otaku fashion. I'm told our kind hosts even have a giant Sonic costume that may see some action. I highly reccomend having some spending cash handy, as there are refreshments available from the Game Works as well as a fully functioning arcade.

Well, we were less organized than I was hoping for and a few key people weren't able to make it, but overall it was a great experience and it turned out really well for our first screening at the theatre. We'll be better organized in the future and hopefully things will turn out even better!

I thought it was a good meeting, I was surprised by the movie as well, after reading some reviews of The girl who leapt thru time I thought oh great another introspective anime, but It was very funny and a great movie. I look forward to the next one. :)

For the love of God, I hope that the weather is better tomorrow night than it was last night...

As Darkelf said, all meter parking is free after six pm.

If parking's a concern, you can usually find free parking by the parking meters after 6 if you look hard enough. Where I live on Meridian close to Lucas Oil, there's often open spaces.

mmk. I intend on wearing my Wonder chef cosplay, so look out for a person with moderately long blonde hair in all green. I'll stick out like a sore thumb. If I don't cosplay though I'll be in all black, and prolly a red IUPUI Shirt.

Ok great! I'll wait outside (or inside if it's cold). I have dark hair and I'll be wearing a plaid skirt and black shirt. I'll call my friend later today and see if it's ok that she drops me off.

I'll leave my place to get Aaren at 5:20 prolly, and then I can easily slide by the Barnes and Noble at the mall and pick you up. and that should put me at the mall at 6-6:10, as long as traffic on I-65 isn't bad coming from the I-465 east side.

Thank you, Richard! I'll talk to a friend about dropping me off somewhere after I hang out with her. I wonder, since you'll be in Greenwood, would the Greenwood Park Mall entrance be ok to pick up from? Or maybe the Barnes and Noble at the mall? Just trying to think of places that stick out. Oh! What time are you thinking of leaving?

    May 13, 2009

  • Richard

and Rae, if you find out you can come just tell me and I'll swing back to the east side again and get you as we planned.

I'll be trying to get my friend to come to the event, but Kirei, I could easily meet you over on the southside somewhere. I'll be picking him up in Franklin/Greenwood area, and then heading north from there on 31.

Aww I hoped that you'd be there, Rae. It was nice to meet you last Saturday. ^-^

So umm does anyone live on south Indy who's willing to carpool to downtown? I had no idea this was an option. If you are, I'll carpool with you! I live in Franklin Township. :3

See my comment on the side, but I can longer go (6_6).
    Sorry, friends.

OK, thanks for the offers, friends. I just talked to Richard and he and I will carpooling since he's on the way. I'm set ^_^

Unfortunately, since everyone is coming from every which direction there's really no good way to set up a mass carpool outside of downtown- if anyone else is interested in finding carpooling options just post a comment and hopefully someone will accommodate. I will say that there's no rule that one must park in the underground mall parking lot, if you're willing to walk maybe 4 or 5 blocks there are a lot of streets that don't even have active meters after a certain time.

I'll have to talk to Anthony but I'm sure we can pick you up on the way, there's a strip mall just off i-465, if you take the interstate down to the Washington st. exit and then drive straight when you exit the offramp it's right in front of you, there's an International Buffet there, probably the best place to meet. I'll let you know if he's cool with it.

Wait, this is Circle Center mall, ne? That costs $$ to park, right? Is there any way that we might be able to organize a carpool at someone's house so we don't have to pay $5 a pop just to park? I'm already paying so much for gas so I'd rather cut costs anyway I can. Plus, as I've already well establishes, I hate driving in downtown Indy since I have no idea where the hell I am without a detailed map or instructions.

Gabe let's be sure we both get there at least a half hour early so we can test the systems and everything. I doubt they've tried running a DVD with subtitles before.

Its quite fine. It gave me a chance to answer that question wholesale and again restate one of the finests selling points for this partnership, the fact that this meetup isn't charging for this event and neither is our generous partner Game Works. That is an important point to make clear.
