Anime is more fun when you watch it with friends, right? So join us for a screening of the March Anime of the Month,
Whisper of the Heart.
My co-organizer at the Indy Film Buffs, Gary has kindly offered to host the screening; not only does he have a better TV than I do, but he lives just one block from Yat's where we'll grab supper and hang out after the movie. About the movie:
Whisper of the Heart is a Studio Ghibli film, written but not directed by Hayao Miyazaki. The film's director, Yoshifumi Kondo was being groomed to become one of Ghibli's top directors when he died at the untimely age of 47 just a few years after this film was released. This is a realistic coming of age story about a junior high school girl in Tokyo who dreams of becoming a professional writer. When the grandfatherly owner of a curio shop encourages her to pursue her writing, she creates a fantasy-adventure tale that is animated as a story within the story. The hero of her story was a heroic animate cat figurine named The Baron, who became so popular he got his own movie to star in a few years later.
