Anime Crossroads! Opening Day

Anime Crossroads is the first anime centric convention in Indy in a long time and it's here to stay. It's a full weekend of Otaku fun and excitement with all the convention bells and whistles. Cosplay, Screenings, Panels, a maid cafe, and a widely expanded dealers room from last year. While the IAU has no official presence this year several of our organizers are organizer for the event and Vicky and Lys will be hosting a go panel on Saturday. This is a general interest meetup where we expect to bump into friends from the underground as well as many many new friends.

It was nice seeing you too Vicki. So you did end up sick? Sorry to hear that. Hope you feel better soon.

Hetalia will be ordered from Amazon as virtually no one had it. I watched about 3/4 of "Shogon Assassin" which is a very gory live action "Lone Wolf and Cub." Unfortunately, the cold/flu season has decided to visit me and I faded and left about 12:30 a.m. Saturday night so I couldn't see the rest of it.

I had a good time & some good conversation with people. I didn't really see anything much in the dealers room. Season one of Kyo Kara Maoh somehow found its way home with me. How did that happen :) Oh well, the Geneon titles are who knows where & they are becoming a bit tougher to find.

Some really unusual Hikaru no Go stamps went home with me also. The dealer said they originally went in Japanese gumball / toy machines. Never seen anything like them in all my eyeballing EBAY.

I'm not really one for conventions, but the second day was pretty entertaining. Our Go Salon demonstration went well too I think.

Yep. It's a nice con. Quite laid back as long as it's like last year. If you run into problems feel free to run into me in the back. I'll prolly be programming on my laptop in the Main Events hall, or working on the controls again.

Richard will be perched at the back of main programming for the vast majority of the convention. Gabriel is set up for security/ops (I think) so he'll be floating whereever needed.

The Go Workshop is 12 to 2:30 Saturday and my kimono demonstration is from 4:30 to 5:30. If it becomes a bit hectic you can find downtime in the manga library, which has books to read in exchange for leaving your driver's license with the librarian.

ACROSS is almost here. I would recommend going to the website and checking out the schedule on the forums. It always seems easier to do a little pre planning ahead of time, IMO. Of course, I like the panels & that could be part of the reason for that.

Its not really the sort of thing where we'll have much of an organized meetup, but if you have never been to a convention before and have questions I'll be running around. I have a blackberry email [masked] if you want to find me

SUNDAY MEETING CANCELLED. Just a note that the meeting scheduled for August 29th has been cancelled. It will probably be rescheduled for the next sunday, september 5, but that's not definite yet.

Go ahead and volunteer. There is a meeting currently scheduled for August 29 at 2 p.m. at the Marriott. Come to volunteer or show up Friday of the con and ask at ops (operations) about earning your badge through volunteering. Its fun and a great money saver.

Actually, go to the forums at animecrossroads.com the saturday before or morning of the meeting. Last month it was unexpectedly moved up from 4 p.m to noon.

Although I've been attending comic book conventions and / or science fiction conventions for years, this was my first anime convention. I had a really great time. The onlyl downside is the high frequency shrieks reached by some of the fangirls can truly shatter eardrums as well as bend metal. There is nothing like it in any other fannish convention. Anime Crossroads is always looking for more volunteers, so don't let finances keep you away.
