The Sword of the Stranger

This is a Samurai epic that has been considered one of the most standout anime films of the year and the only anime in consideration for an Oscar nomination this year. This is its U.S. premier and its for one night only at Kerasotes Showplace 16 and IMAX on Indianapolis near southside about ten minuites from downtown and just off of either madison or merridian in Southern Plaza. Popcorn and drinks of all sizes have free refills and I will be pitching in for popcorn. Ticket prices and the general time for the film have not been released yet but expect the tickets to be around eight dollars and the showtime to be around seven pm. I will update the information as soon as it is confirmed. This is one of our first chances to see anime in theatres. This will only be my third experience with an anime in a traditional theatre setting and I am excited. I hope you all are as well. One of the best ways to ensure that these become more and more commonplace is if we show up in force, lets get as many people as possible to show up for this meetup. Nanishi (No name) A ronin, haunted by his terrible past, has sworn to keep his sword sheathed. However upon meeting Kotaro he finds himself re-evaluating his life. Whilst traveling with the young Kotaro, Nanashi finds himself acting as a bodyguard for the boy. This in turn leads to his prolonged struggle against Raro... Kotaro Kotaro is a young orphan, seen in the opening scene being told by Father Shoan to run far away from the monastery. He finds himself being pursued by assassins sent by the Ming dynasty as well as the soldiers of Akaike. With no idea why he is being pursued, when he encounters Nanashi he seeks protection from him. His sole traveling companion until meeting Nanashi is his dog, Tobimaru. Raro Acting as the second in command in the Ming's group, led by Byakuran - Raro stands out in the group as he is the only Caucasian in the group. With a thirst for both greater power - Raro craves equally stronger enemies so he may improve his skills. Meeting Nanashi is like a dream come true for him. Shogen One of the chief vassals of Akaike. He is a warrior whose swordsmanship skills have helped him rise above the rank-and-file soldiers and into power. He is driven by the ambition of one day becoming the ruler of an independent territory. Byakuran The leader of the Ming group. He is responsible for chasing Kotaro on the Emperor’s order. He is completely dedicated to the Emperor and is just using Raro for his strength.

Unfortunately an emergency came up and I couldn't attend this one, it's the first meetup I haven't actually gone to (though in one previous one I showed up too late to matter it seemed). That said, I apologize Richard since it seems neither Rae nor I showed up at the Hamilton theatre, and you were on your own. Anywho, hopefully I'll have the details worked out in the next day or two for the next meetup and things will work out better for that one ^_^

Film was very good. The company was good, and it was amazing to watch an anime up on the big screen! Something that I hope is not going to be as rare as it has been in the past.

Congrats on your new job! Glad to have another theatre lover here, I am one of the founding members of Bards in Garfield Park company in Indy. Just started my own new job at WFYI last sunday so good news all around then! Sorry we'll be missing you but we'd love to see you at our next meetup.

    Good news/Bad news!
I got a job after being unemployed since August stage-managing for AU's next play. Anyway, I start tonight and I'll be working tomorrow too so I can't go. :/ I'll have to catch it on DVD I guess, but at least I'll be able to afford the next meetup!

Was I the only one really considering the Hamilton? Cuz honestly, I don't really care at this point. The AU club members are TERRIBLE about answering email requests and we didn't meet Tuesday b/c of all the snow, so I think I'm the only coming from Anderson at this point and it's warming up a bit tomorrow, so I don't really care about driving (provided the directions are correct this time around ;) Either way, the tix are $12.50/piece, just gas is different.

I'd be fine with hosting the meetup up at the Hamilton. the only question is if the traffic will keep me from getting there.

Note that these titles start at 7:30PM at both locations, so the meetup time is 7, 30 minutes before it starts, and I confirmed the directions to Southern Plaza for the south indy showing, clicking the link to the address here in the meetup details should be accurate.

If neither I nor Gabe go to the Noblesville showing, Richard will be the "group leader" there, if he accepts. Everyone let me know what you think of this, I'm certainly not a fan of forcing people that far out of their way if there's a way to avoid it, and in this case there seems to be an easy way to split things up.

This is actually showing at multiple locations. That being said, I'll be going to the showing at either south Indianapolis or Noblesville. Since we have more than one person thinking about seeing this in Noblesville, if you plan on going to see it there mark "yes" for the RSVP and make a note of which one you'll be going to so that you'll be counted as present for the meetup (in other words, we'll make this meetup in multiple locations to make things easier).
