Saturday with Sonic, Our Second Anime Underground Screening
Due to scheduling conflicts our second screening will be on Saturday, June 6th. While I am well aware this is not a Friday, it's also an opportunity to allow even more people to attend and more people means a more rewarding experience.
This screening will focus on some of the most heralded anime films in Japan, those of the director Makato Shinkai. Each piece is an artful use of animation as a storytelling medium, and is art in and of itself. Many are linked to Japanese culture and will be a great experience to share in their natural setting, the silver screen. The two Shinkai classics we will be showing are "Voices of a Distant Star," a short OVA video, and "Beyond the Clouds," a movie which not many people in the community have seen yet.
We will also be finishing off as much of our four part OVA, Zaoin, from one of the best production houses in Japan for anime, Gonzo.
Once again cosplay and gothic lolita dress are highly encouraged and welcome. We had a total of five cosplayers last time including our hosts son Christian who kindly joined us as Sonic and even got involved playing a round of DDR. It was serious fun and a friendly environment and I know in Indy there aren't many chances for it. I may join you all as one Monkey D. Luffy, gum gum fruit included.
Our member James, the sensei and owner of the Ten Gates Hall martial arts studio here in Indy, will also be displaying his fair share of Japanese Culture, with demonstrations of Senso Ryu a Gendai (New school) and Hakuho Ryu a Koryu (Old school). Senso Ryu is Jujutsu and Hakuho Ryu is Aikijujutsu a more evolved form of Jujutsu. There will be a short sword drawing demonstration but only one kata (form) and then a question an answer section from James if needed. He is going to be joined by three of his students from the Jumonkon.
Looking forward to seeing everyone there, RSVP today!
