Two Lakes Loop

This easygoing 12.4-mile loop through southern Indiana’s hill country is like three trips in one. The scenery morphs from dense deciduous forest to Midwest prairie to alpine-like lakes nestled in the hills.

How to get to camp follow the trail at the end of the parking lot probably less than a quarter mile and you will see us 50 feet of the trail on the right. John, will you email this also?

    May 10, 2013

  • Kyle M.

The coordinates for the trail head are off a little. When you go leave the entrance gate, turn left at the sign for two lakes loop trail head. You should see my blue Dodge Ram pickup truck. Johnn if you would copy this and email everyone, I'd appreciate it.

If things get better today I will see you there tomorrow morning bright and early! Can someone send me a text when you get to camp so I'll know if phones are working and I can let you know if I am able to come down.

I plan on getting to camp by 8. That mean probably only Bryan will be up. :-)

    Hey Kyle,

Thanks for doing this. Although it probably wasn't much of an imposition. :-)

I found the coordinates for Jason Falls if you guys plan on making that bushwhack. They are[masked]' N and[masked]' W I have no proof that they are correct :-O. If they aren't when you get to the stream just head upstream. Maybe you'll find them. :-)

    Hello Everyone,

I have uploaded a gpx file to the files page. You can get it here: http://files.meetup.com/712120/Evansville%20IN%20Indian%20Lake%20and%20Lake%20Celina.gpx

The hike is about 12.4 miles total distance. You can view the route and map here: http://www.trimbleoutdoors.com/ViewTrip/2225970

There is plenty of water on the trail. There is at least 1 stream that we will probably need to wade given all of the rain we've had lately.

Driving directions from I465/I65 are here: http://goo.gl/maps/fnwf2 Expect about a 2 hour and 15 minute drive to get to the entrance. Entry fee to is $5.00 per car.

Once we get to camp there is a bushwhack to Jason Falls, a recently discovered waterfall. This is about a mile from camp, straight west. Weather for next weekend, Highs in the 80's, lows in the mid 50's. Expect some rain.

This is tick country. Bring some deet.

I plan on leaving sometime early Friday afternoon.

    Post your questions now...:-)

Are we following the way point on that GPX file? And are we going CW or CCW.

      May 6, 2013

    • John L.

We are following the way points. I had originally thought about going CCW. I think though it would be better for Sunday if we go CW and take the shorter distance out. It is about a 1.5 mile difference according to my calculations.

John here is a great place to when you come off the trail Sunday. It is right ion the River in Leavenworth about a 20 minute drive from the trail.

Great food and service they won't care if you are dirty and just off the trail.

Ticks will be bad down there. I was there last May and they were very bad.

In light of some questions that I've had recently, the entry fee below is the entry fee to the recreation area.

Indy Backpackers does not charge any fees for any trips.

    May 4, 2013

    • John L.

Seriously Bryan, 49 minutes after Friday ends? :-) I know you are all excited and stuff because your wife is coming home but get some sleep. When we're on the trail you're always the 1st to sack out about 10-10:30. Ok I'm giving you a hard time. :-) I'll send out an email in a few minutes.

John I am glad you mentioned that... It was not my intention to overlap the ruck. We should do this the weekend or two weekends after the ruck.
