Hemlock Cliffs

Let's go to Hemlock Cliffs. We will start off on the official trail through the box canyon. Here we can see waterfalls, sandstone rock formations and wild flowers.

We'll then turn north and follow the unofficial trail to see some cliffs and caves. We won't go too far in on Friday.  Saturday we will continue the hike and find a place to camp somewhere near one of the streams and do some day hiking from there.

On the way out Sunday we'll again enter the official trail and see the rest of the views that Hemlock Cliffs has to offer.

After thinking about this all night the Peninsula Trail is going to be one long mudslide considering that it is also a horse trail. It's not very protected from the wind and rain down by the lake either. I talked this over with Kyle and he agrees.

I think we'll have a better trip if we go to Sycamore. Sycamore provides several choices. We can go down into the hollow and camp at what I call the bench campsite. Or we can do a bushwhack out to the lake on a trip that I planned last winter. We could also hike over to a winter campsite that Kyle used on one of his trips.

We'll meet Kyle and B3 at the 1st campsite when entering the Sycamore trail going counterclockwise.

Rain rain everywhere. Well to be precise..thunderstorms. Regardless, I'm getting in the woods this weekend somewhere. The only question is whether we do it closer to home.

There is better than 50% chance of rain/thunderstorms Saturday at Deam and Hemlock. Estimating 1.5" at Hemlock Sat. night. About .9 at Deam.

If anyone wants to stay closer speak now. We need to have it sorted out before Kyle and B3 leave tomorrow. Either place is good for me.

Can I do part of this as a day hike on just Friday?

    April 4, 2013

    • John

I don't see any reason why not if it doesn't get dark on you. The official trail is a little over a mile. I would not hike it in the dark though. I can't guarantee a start time as that depends on when people get there. The posted start time is just a suggestion but is flexible to meet different needs.
