Red River Gorge
I've been wanting to check out Star Gap Arch for a while. Possible side trips to Jailhouse Rock and maybe Double Arch. Should be a good time with chilly weather and great views. This is a good trip for photographers. Terrain looks fairly easy to moderate and I would guess no more than 2 or 3 miles per day with packs. Maybe another 4 or 5 without packs depending on which formations we decide to check out.
We will camp near the Paleo parking are Friday night. Here is a link for a map to there.
Saturday we will pack up and head towards Saturday nights camp which will be somewhere along trail 203. We may have to split up some due to the size of the group. I plan to be in a valley (no wind) close to water. There are side trails along the way which we can drop packs and check out Star Gap Arch, Jailhouse Rock, or both. After we find a place to camp, we can day hike to Double Arch, Sweat Pea Rockhouse, Wizard's Backbone, Haystack Rock, Courthouse Rock (with a view of Ravens Rock) or a combination. There may also be an option to check some of these out on the way out Sunday.
There will be 2 carpools/caravans leaving Friday night. I am leading one that will leave around 4 p.m. Todd is leading the other that will leave no later than 7 p.m. It's a 4 hour drive and we have to be at the Shell station in Slade to get permits before they close at midnight.
Please remember to bring cash to help pay for fuel for the vehicle you're riding in. The people in the vehicle decide how to split fuel cost.
