Hemlock Cliffs, overnight. Non official trail.

The back side of the official trail has tons of trails that are not on the map, lots of big rock houses, 1 cave that I know of, and an abandon house.

This will be 85% bushwhacking/unofficial trails.  Its a place that not a lot of people have seen. There is evidence of native populations living here for nearly 1500 years.  Its an easy trip, and there is lots of water.

From I-64 take the IN 237 exit north about 2 miles. The road climbs a steep grade, just before it begins to level off, you are looking for Union Chapel road on the left. Be careful, you may miss this the first time. Turn left at Union Chapel and follow the road to the first intersection, continue left. At the next intersection, continue right. At the "T" in the road, continue on Hatfield road to the right. Look for the Hoosier National Forest sign. Park at the gravel picnic area lot.

Link to the map of the trip.   http://www.wikiloc.com/wikiloc/view.do?id=2405131

Weather: http://www.wunderground.com/q/zmw:47118.1.99999

You will need a basic backpacking setup. We will camp over night, and head back in the morning.

This trip is cross listed on the Ohio Valley Backpackers meetup.

Started off a little damp, but the waterfalls were flowing well. Thanks to Jeannie we all had our fill of wild turkey (the flying type, not the liquid type). A very neat place to visit with a lot of natural features.

Great time, fun around the camp.I got to experience what it's Like to be a high power corporate exec.firing, and re-hiring DC multiple times for poor wood placement onto the fire.

So in all seriousness(totally not me) are we pitch in-ing it Sat supper meal? Obviously it will change what I bring. So far we have turkey kabobs, instant potatoes, stuffing. And 20 hungry mouths to feed. :)
This does not include the whiskey desert.

I say if you would like to bring something to share that is great, but to try to organize something at the last minute with this many folks is a bit much.

      March 26, 2014

    • Ron W.

That being said I will be bringing some of my home brew to share and a bag of marshmallows to roast over the fire.

Bryan. I just bought a new tent and am attempting to follow the YouTube directions on making my soup can into a stove. You better bring your d"@$ A game to this party or else. You can be the comedy relief!

About how much hiking is involved each direction?

    March 16, 2014

    • Ron W.

It will be about 5 miles in to the campsite on Saturday and about 3 miles out on Sunday. We will be roughly following this path: http://www.wikiloc.co... We will be going counter clockwise as in this link. When we get to the top we will setup camp then go exploring.

Anybody going Friday? I know a good spot 1 Mile or less from the lot.

      March 23, 2014

What is a basic backpacker set-up? I hope I can find a way from Fort Wayne to there before all the spots are taken

    March 13, 2014

    • Ron W.

Basically it is everything you need to live in while in nature, in a fairly compact form. You need shelter, insulation, food, water and whatever other items the situation dictates. You would need a tent/hammock/tarp, backpack, sleeping bag and pad, warm cloths (not cotton), food (and a way to cook it), and water (a couple of quarts). Here is a link to a discussion of these things:http://www.meetup.com...

Thanks! Love your list :-D Finally some sensible essentials. Maybe I should buy better boots and a backpack before I buy a repair kit and some navigation tools. Now to find a ride lol

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
