Emily Wells

Emily Wells is an eclectic, adventurous, one-woman band.  She packs so many influences and instruments in her music, with a foundation that is equal parts contemporary classical and hip-hop.  Her dynamic performance style must be seen to be believed.  Using looping techniques similar to artists like Andrew Bird or Kishi Bashi, while also sharing their penchant for incorporating violin into their works, what separates Wells is her funky, rhythmic flair.

Adding to that hip-hop flavor is her recent collaboration, Pillowfight, with Dan the Automator, notable for his work with Gorillaz and Deltron 3030 among many other artists he has produced.  You can check out the full album streaming here: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/01/15/pillowfight-dan-the-automator-emily-wells_n_2480925.html

Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 day of the show.  You can purchase them online here: http://ticketf.ly/XKuyTu or pick them up at the Do317 Lounge in Fountain Square and avoid the small service fee.  You can also try to win free tickets through Do317 here: http://do317.com/event/2013/05/09/emily-wells-w-special-guests

While I could have done without much of the opening acoustic set, and I would have enjoyed hearing some of the music from her Pillowfight album, of which she played none, it was still a great night of music. Emily is such a versatile artist, and it's always impressive seeing her singlehandedly create her richly layered tunes. Michelle, Marisol, Rebecca and I had fun dancing around to the DJ afterwards too.

For anyone interested in meeting prior to the show, I plan to grab some grub and drinks at Revolution, which is located across the street from Radio Radio. I plan to be there around 7, but you're welcome to arrive at any time. My number is[masked], which you're welcome to text if you have any trouble locating me.
