To celebrate the 20th anniversary of his most acclaimed and best selling album, Girlfriend, Matthew Sweet will be performing the album in its entirety at Radio Radio on Oct. 18. I am going to be there and you should too.
It's hard for me to believe that it's been 20 years since Girlfriend was released. I have owned a copy since its release and have continued to listen to it from time to time through the years. It's such a perfect slice of good, romantic, American power pop, and has such a timeless quality which allows it to stand up so well over the years. Of course it features the stand out title track, which I remember receiving a lot of airplay on MTV with its anime infused video. There are also many other beautiful gems nestled in this album like "Divine Intervention", "I've Been Waiting", "Looking at the Sun", "Evangeline", "Don't Go". I'm excited knowing I'll be hearing all of these during his set.
The tickets are $18 advance, $20 at the door, but I don't imagine any tickets will be left by the day of the show. MOKB, the promoters for the show, seem pretty certain this will sell out quickly, and they are pretty reliably accurate with those speculations. I highly recommend that if you're interested in attending and want to be sure to do so, buy tickets in advance at Radio Radio or online here: http://mokbpresents.com/2011/08/31/matthew-sweet/
