Jeff Mangum is a revered indie folk-rock legend, renowned for founding the Elephant 6 Collective and for two seminal albums as Neutral Milk Hotel. Then at the height of his fame with the overwhelming success of NMH's 1998 album, In the Aeroplane Over the Sea, he practically disappeared from the face of the earth. Uncomfortable with his newfound prestige, he escaped the public eye to lead a reclusive life for most of the next decade. Mangum finally resumed performing publicly in 2008, but has only done so sporadically, often showing up unannounced at shows by Elephant 6-related artists. He still remains a mostly enigmatic figure, refusing to do publicity and strictly disallowing concertgoers to use any recording devices or take any pictures during his performances.
This will be a very special performance, seeing as his new tour is specifically designed to pass through smaller cities and venues. Due to his cult-like following and the rarity of his public performances, this show will undoubtedly sell out, and more than likely it will do so quickly.
