Ravenloft - 5E

Hello everyone! I'll be running an excursion into Ravenloft tomorrow. The game will run with 2-5 players. All characters are pre-generated. I will have extra dice, but feel free to bring your lucky set.

Not familiar with Ravenloft? There are plenty of sites dedicated to Ravenloft you can research. The emphasis is on horror, mystery, and storytelling. Characters are less powerful and the forces are darkness are elusive and dangerous.

To maximize the experience, I am handling several aspects for you. When you come to the event, I will have character packets available. There will be a little information on the outside. Feel free to pick whatever name or picture resonates with you, but stick with that character for the game.

Inside you'll have the character sheet, their background, their motivations, and their personality. Please read this information carefully as it will drive the plot and shape the game.  You can pick these up in advance but, if you can’t stay for the campaign, please return it for someone else to use.

One central theme that carries in many Ravenloft games is fear of the unknown, the unpredictable. The first Ravenloft game (if you’re not familiar, I have attached a link with the pdf) included an interesting mechanism that randomized key aspects of the plot, making the game a unique playing experience for both the DM and players. I have attempted to recapture that through the character selection process, as well as some other mechanics in the game. I am strongly against linear games and take a guided-sandbox approach to campaign writing.

I look forward to seeing you all on the night of the 27th! Contact me with any questions.

Thanks to Ian for preparing our evening and to Heather for hosting. It was great to roleplay again for a night.

I have to ask: does "no experience necessary" actual mean none at all? I've never played D&D before, but I've gained a substantial interest after obsessively listening to a ton of podcasts and watching videos. Will I need anything besides a set of dice? In any case, I'm super excited!

The rules, simplified: Do smart things, live. Do dumb things (or be unlucky): roll up new character.

To be fair, sometimes doing the right things kills you too.

Alright, it sounds as if people would like details. In regards Shane's question on location, the main location is an area that is gaining the Dark Power's attention and is sliding into Ravenloft. I'll leave the rest up to you.

As for Michael's question, no, no experience is necessary, as I'll supply character sheets and such. The game will be player-interactive intensive, meaning the game is written to encourage characters interacting, pursuing their agendas, and investigating.

As for Heather, yes, yes you should play.
