D&D Encounters @ The Game Preserve

The new season of D&D Encounters kicks off 10/24/2012. The three season Drow arch comes to a close with Menzoberanzen on the brink of civil war. Create a new first level character and join this 8-week season. See if you can stop the Everlasting War!

Additional Notes: This season has a different structure than previous seasons. Over the course of 8 weeks characters will grow from 1st to 8th level, leveling up after every session. If you want to enter part way through the season it will be necessary to create a character higher than first level.

For character creation all D&D Essentials rules books are acceptable: Heroes of the Fallen Lands, Heroes of the Forgotten Kingdoms, Player's Options: Heroes of the Feywild, Heroes of the Shadowfell and Menzoberranzen.

Other changes include:

No renown points or promo Fortune Cards.

You may still bring your own of Fortune Cards stack to play.

More story-driven with a lesser emphasis on combat.

Every week will feel like an entire season rolled into one sitting so expect rapidly-shifting settings instead of a single room each time.

D&D 3.0 and 3.5 are no longer supported by Wizards of the Coast for purposes of sanctioning. Right now, the Game Preserve at Keystone does not run a regular 3rd Edition D&D game.
If you are interested in running one I would advise stopping in and talking to the manager to see if there is interest and room in the schedule.

Does the game preserve ever play 3rd edition DnD games anymore?

Ah i see. Wasn't a huge fan of 4.0.. but I may give it a shot anyhow.

Sorry, I should have included this up front. D&D Encounters uses the D&D Essentials rules. This is a version of the 4th edition rules, a little more streamlined and easier for new players to understand and start playing quickly.

So, is it DND 4.0? They use it for next? Or is it like DND minis? I had heard various things, like it was a DND Stratagy game, for example... which may be cool.. but I didn't think it was actually that.
Thanks though, for answering me :) If I can afford to, I may show up and give it a shot.

D&D Encounters is the highly successful program from Wizards of the Coast designed to introduce players to the game. Players meet at a local game store every Wednesday and play one encounter from a pregenerated adventure supplied to the store. Every store in the world is playing the same adventure at the same time. The adventure is broken into "chapters" consisting of 2 to 5 encounters each. An extended rest is taken after each one and characters generally level up at each break if players attend every time. The whole season is 8 to 13 weeks long. The first session is generally character building so new players can get help with the process. Everyone starts with a new level 1 character each season so players can try something new every time. Overall I rate this program as an excellent way to get groups together and increase player base for the game. Plus, it is a lot of fun!
