Ron Taylor Memorial Ride: Benefiting the Martinsville Youth Center

Mike Thacker, a fellow IMG member and regular IMG Tuesday Bike Night attendee, is one of the organizers of this event. Ron Taylor, Vice President of the local chapter Blue Knights INVII, was one of the founders of the Martinsville Youth Center. He gave almost all of his time and energy to this project during the last five years of his life prior to his passing on April 26, 2013. Ron was very adamant about the youth in Martinsville having a safe place, as well as a club that would assist them in improving their grades and preparing for the future. He exhausted hours, days, weeks, and months working on the MYC. Therefore, this memorial ride is a tribute to Ron to show that we all support his dream and it can become a reality. 100% of proceeds go to the Martinsville Youth Center.

Good ride, well organized, good food and very friendly people! Too bad we had to leave early due to other obligations...we really would have preferred staying and completing the ride (and poker game!)

I had a great time. The ride was awesome, a few too many potholes and sand, just had to take your time, but the route was nice, curvy, hilly and everything in between.

What a great group of people that hosted this ride! I've never felt more welcomed and appreciated on a benefit ride. The home cooked meal at the church was sooooo good. Great day to ride and great people to ride with! Look for us to be on Steel Horse in a couple of weeks.

My older brother and I (Ron's sons) will be at the ride; however, our youngest brother won't be able to make it. My older brother has always made it a point to ride with our father and the Blue Knights for the Fall Foliage Festival (made possible thanks to the generosity of Jeff B. loaning him a bike that wasn't being used). He is trying to find a place that rents bikes so he can ride in this event. Plainfield Harley used to, but evidently is not currently doing so. Does anyone have some advice I can pass along to him on how to get on a bike for this? He's making the trip over from St. Louis and it is very important to him to be present; I'd love to ride along with my brother for this as I'm sure you all would like to see as much of Ron's family on bikes for the ride! Are there any businesses out there that would rent a bike for the day?

    Thanks for the help!

    Brian

Dreyer Honda South is just now starting a rental program. If he signs up to be a member of IMG, he may get a discount (not sure if they will give a discount on rentals).

Mike, I want to thank you for organizing this and for Jeff and the Blue Knights for showing so much love and support for the memory of my father. With this ride and the outpouring of support for our father, it is important for us to represent our father and I will be travelling back to join you in the ride. My other two brothers, from St. Louis and D.C., are also planning on meeting up for the ride. I wanted to post a message to the group, the Blue Knights, and the community to personally thank everyone. It has always been our proudest achievement to be called our father's sons.

Thank you for helping put together this ride in honor of Dad's passion and his devotion to helping and serving others. It means a great deal to us, to Kathy, and to the many children that will benefit from his efforts without ever fully realizing all that he has done for them.

Look forward to riding with you.

    Very Sincerely, Brian Taylor
