I have been a lurker for the most part with indy.rb. I attended a couple meetings many months ago and hope to attend again.
I hope you do! The more, the merrier.
Thought you would be interested that visitindy.com relaunched this weekend as a Rails site. Hopefully, the start of a lot more Rails for Indianapolis.
That's awesome! It seems like Ruby and Rails are all over this city of late.
Glad to hear feedback on the design, too. It has been the subject of much debate on the development team and hearing your opinion would be helpful.
I'm just going to quibble: I wish the search box was at the very top of the right hand side bar, instead of below those links. Incidentally, those links feel like footer links. Also, perhaps there is something wrong with me, but the calender, then 'featured events' header, then little chat bubble looks odd to me. I'd lose the bubble with the drop shadow, and style that element in such a way that it looks like it belongs. (So, keep it flat more than anything.) Separate the calendar from the "Featured Events" header with a horizontal rule or border. I'd also lose the sideways "Use this to plan your trip to Indy". It's sticking out over there in the abyss!
I hope those suggestions are more helpful than they are annoying. I'm sure there are some on this list who are much more design savvy than I. Perhaps they'll speak up to tell me how wrong I am. ;-)
