Meditation Evergreen provides weekly meditation classes that include guided meditation followed by talks and discussions on Buddhist philosophy as it applies to meditation techniques and skills. Weekend retreats are also held monthly. Personal coaching in meditation skills is offered as well, by appointment, for those who may be interested.
All teachers are Western practitioners with many years of study and practice experience, who have completed several long retreats. They bring their contemporary cultural background and present-day meditation experience to the teaching of the meditation skills and methods taught by the Buddha, which remain as effective today as they were 2,550 years ago in opening up the mind to understanding that leads to personal freedom and inner peace. Our goal is to make this information available in the spirit of sharing, as was done in the Buddha’s time, without the ritual that has become popular in many areas of the Buddhist world, and in an affordable way.
Through practice, teaching and discussion, the classes examine the teachings of the Buddha that are central to and form the basis of all the meditation practices of the Buddhist world. These teachings include methods of calming meditation, known in Sanskrit as shamatha, as well as methods of special insight, or vipassana in Sanskrit. In the context of the foundations or bases of mindfulness taught by the Buddha (body, feeling tones, mind and object of mind), these two types of practice encompass all the types of meditation known today. Special emphasis is given to the cultivation of equanimity, loving kindness, compassion and joy through practices that remove obstacles to our natural expression of these emotions.
Classes are designed to be understandable and of interest to anyone, whether or not there is prior experience of meditation. Come and see for yourself or contact us at info@MeditationEvergreen.comor303-523-9941 for more information.
