Movie Title: "Synechdoche"
From the creative minds behind "Adaptation," "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind," and "Being John Malkovich," comes another mind-bending mix of reality and fiction. In the movie, a New York theater director (played by Philip Seymour Hoffman) experiences the slow crumble of his familiar universe as it transforms into the fictitious world he's concocted for a new play. (See trailer and movie info.)

SCHEDULE

1:00- 1:30pm Meditation & Movie Pass Pick-up
Phillip Morris Public Atrium
120 Park Ave @ 42nd St
(Entrance on 42nd across from Grand Central)

We'll have a short meditation class and then head over to the movie theater. We'll have time to walk over and do a walking meditation. Optionally, you can catch the cross-town bus or run across the street and catch the shuttle to Times Square. (Be sure to meet us here if you're picking up a discount movie pass. You have to pay in advance to get the pass.)

2:00 - 4:15 Movie
AMC Empire 25
234 W. 42nd St. (close to 8th Ave.)

We maintain meditative awareness as we watch the film, and have discussion afterward to see what Spirit may have revealed to each of us through the film. The purpose of "Meditation & a Movie" is not to critique films as being "good" or "bad" and the films we see will not necessary have spiritual themes. Metaphysically speaking, life is neither good or bad, and everything in life is spiritual anyway. This event is to help us practice staying awake, witnessing what life presents before us, and learning to articulate and apply whatever wisdom we see in our everyday lives. (Movie starts at 2pm. If you're skipping meditation class, go straight up to the movie.)

4:15 - 5:30ish Conversation & a Bite to eat
We'll choose a nearby eatery to share our meditative insights.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Meetup Fee for this event includes a discounted movie pass. You must pay in advance to get the discount. Otherwise, you will have to pay regular admission price at the movie theater. To get your discounted movie pass, you must meet up with the group at the Meditation class location BEFORE we leave for the theater. There are no refunds if you don't show up or arrive late, however, you can still pick up your movie pass later and use it to see another movie at another time. There is no expiration date on the discounted movie pass.

    •  I think the movie was an interesting illustration of karma, awareness and reality. Definitely view it with meditative awareness because I think you have to look beyond your reactions to really see this movie.
    •  Again, the people were very nice and a pleasure to meet. The movie was quite depressing but it gave us much to think about in our own lives and that was the whole point. All in all I would say it was another good day.
