Uncovering Authentic Community: issues and opportunities

Community. It is the ground, the foundation for everything we do- whether we do social action/service work together or live collectively or .... But what does Authentic Community mean?

As we enter into more complex and often challenging times, some of us may recognize that the only thing that can save us is...ourselves. So, how we come together is important.

This will be an initial exploration of what we know works in how we come together; acknowledging what gets in the way of true community, and develop

ing an understanding of what Authentic Community is.

This event will be an space for any and all conversations for this topic; and the format will allow for everything that people wish to explore to be considered as deeply and for as long as people wish to. A Harvest Document summarizing key ideas from all conversations will be created too.

Food: please bring a dish and snack to share.
Cost: donations will be invited to cover costs.

As preparation for this event you are invited to read:
** Authentic Community by integrative psychotherapist Robert Augustus Masters

**Civic Engagement and the Restoration of Community by Peter Block (this is a freely available summary of the book Community: the Structure of Belonging: Changing the Nature of the Conversation)

Hi all! I look forward to seeing you tomorrow at Uncovering Authentic Community. A few practical pieces--

    1. You are invited to read the pre-reading list in the invitation

    2. If you can, please bring both a lunch dish and snack to share. What you bring is what we eat!

    3. You might want to bring some warm clothing; it is a little cold inside the house.

    4. There will be a temprorary bulletin board to post any events/information of interest.

    5. If possible, please come by 9:45, so that we can start on the dot and make the most of this day together.

See you all in a few hours!

Sorry to say I'm not feeling well and might not make it on the 16th, so unless I suddenly recover, I cannot attend, and wanted to RSVP. I live in Vista and don't have the energy at this time to drive to SD. Thank you for all that you are doing. I hope you have a great meeting. Susan
