We'll be discussing and reviewing the code for an application that uses Node.js and the NoSQL database MongoDB. For those uninitiated, Node.js is a C++ library that incorporates Google's V8 JavaScript engine to allow you to write JavaScript code on the server. It has an event-driven, non-blocking I/O model. No thread synchronization needed, or massive memory needed because it only uses a single thread per CPU.
Steve Brownlee has been wandering around the world of software for over 20 years. His current home is Digital Reasoning Systems in Franklin, TN where he's helping build the applications, visualizations, and user experiences that will enable everyone to leverage the Big Data platform being developed there. A fanatic about pragmatic coding, using industry standards, and having a lot of fun while writing code, he spends his spare time learning about, and teaching, all the cool stuff that you can do with technology today.
Currently use Node JS for a web service in production so the talk was less depth than I have experience with.
