CGD is pleased to announce the second screening of its annual summer film series, Global Development Matters. On August 8 CGD will be screening “Cocaine Unwrapped,” a documentary film that explores the illicit international cocaine trade and its accompanying violence, imprisonment, poverty, and addiction. The film explores the impacts of trafficking and anti-narcotics policies in Colombia, Mexico, Bolivia, and Baltimore, Maryland. It tells the story of the war on drugs through front-line reporting, extensive conversations with those affected by trafficking, and in depth interviews with prominent Latin American politicians.

Peter Reuter is Professor in the School of Public Policy and Department of Criminology at the University of Maryland. He is the co-author of a half a dozen books, mostly about drug policy, including Drug WarHeresies: Learning from Other Vices, Times and Places and The World Heroin Market: Can Supply be Cut? He was the founding president of the International Society for the Study of Drug Policy from 2007-2011. He also founded the Drug Policy Research Center at RAND, where he continues to serve as a Senior Economist.
