The Africa Program at the Wilson Center and the Horn of Africa Policy Institute are pleased to invite you to a discussion with H.E. Abdirahman Mohamud Farole, President of Puntland State of Somalia. He will give a short presentation on recent developments in Puntland, the situation in Somalia, piracy off the coast of Somalia, the increasing Islamic militancy in Central and Southern Somalia, and then accept questions from the audience. Mr. Abdul Ahmed III from the Horn of Africa Policy Institute will give a brief introduction

President Farole is the fourth President of Puntland State of Somalia. Prior to being elected, he served as Finance Minister of Puntland, Board of Directors manager the now-defunct Somali Central Bank and the head of Commercial & Savings Bank of the previous Somali National Government in Somalia.

Prior to his election, Mr. Farole was a researcher at La Trobe University conducting research on post conflict rebuilding of financial institutions. He is a graduate of the Somali National University, the State University of New York at Albany, the International Statistical Institute of Beirut, and La Trobe University in Australia.

Abdul Ahmed III is an organizing member of the Horn of Africa Policy Institute. He specializes on mathematical modeling of policy and institutional structure. As a consultant he served in policy and process optimization in many industrial and development projects in Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Arizona. He is currently a research scholar at Arizona State University.

The discussion will be moderated by Howard Wolpe, Director of the Wilson Center's Africa Program. Ambassador Wolpe is a former seven-term Member of Congress and a former Presidential Special Envoy to Africa's Great Lakes Region.
