A message about Cuba

Dear colleagues and Cuba Steering Committee friends,

Last evening we launched a petition on to the President, the NSC, and the Cuba Desk at State asking for the removal of Cuba from the State Department's list of state sponsors of terrorism. At this moment, it already has 1,555 signatures and is growing by the minute. Please see the petition here: The rationale and background for the petition are also found at this link-but you all know the rationale already!

Our request(s):

    Please sign the petition
    Forward it to your lists and everyone else you can think of - with your endorsement and request for signatures
    Share it on your websites and Facebook pages
    Tweet it
    Include it in your newsletters (on-line, especially) - we expect the petition to be active for months, as long as it keeps growing
    Help in any way that you can to reach the benchmark of 25,000 signatures, which is when the White House might start paying attention.

The terrorist list is housed at State and it doesn't require congressional approval to remove (or add) a country to the list. This is something the President can do, and should do, in the first year of his second term. Let's make it happen.

And watch for other terrorist list activities - conferences, sign-on letters, op-eds, etc., etc. Let's mount a big campaign! And, it would help us if you let us know if/how you have distributed the petition.

Oh, and a question: Let us know if you think a Cuba Consultation 2013 would be a good idea. We didn't host one last year, as the elections took all the air out of the room.  This year?

Thanks so much,
