This time we will be discussing "The separation of Religion and State".
This topic came out from our last discussion about Pakistan and its future. however, it will not be limited to Pakistan but a broader discussion. A few initial questions/suggestions come into my mind:
Is the separation of state and religion is key to tolerance/Is it essential for society to respect cultural differences?
Is it a fundamental principle of democracy?
Or are religious systems politically compatible with democracy?
Do Western democracies have separation of church and state?
Is Islam compatible with the concept of separation of religion and state?
Can Islam and democracy work together?
What are the alternatives?
