Thank you for the reply Jacques. Here is my question, it's aimed at the hardware and software specialists in the group. I would like to stream the data that appears on an LCD screen. It's an 8 bit LCD screen. This flow of data would then be broadcasted to the cloud using an Electric Imp. I’m using an 8 bit Shift Register (8-bit parallel-in/serial-out) to send the data to the Electric Imp on pin 9.

Where I’m stuck is with the programming. What code structure should I use to organize the data flow for it to appear organized on the screen. The result will be a thing that broadcasts the battery status and energy harvested.

I would appreciate your comments and thank you in advance.

Very interesting talk by Oracle's Scott Stillabower on their game plan for IoT. Thanks!

It's great to have you on board Serge. I guess there's a couple of ways to do this. 1) You can start a discussion on the Internet Of Things Ottawa meetup site. There's a “Discussion” section. All members who have chosen to receive notifications will learn of your questions/comments.

    2) I'd be happy to give you the floor at the next meetup (November 18) to address the group and let them know what sort of exchange/collaboration you are looking for. Let me know ahead of time and I'll make sure you are on the agenda.

So go ahead and pick some brains.

    Hi Jacques,

I'm glad I joined your Meetup, It was great to realize I was surrounded with people sharing the same interest. I have a few little projects I'm working on, I have an active imagination to come up with things but could use some help to move forward. Would it be appropriate to pick your collective brains and collaborate?

We were running out of space at Mod Lab. Also, parking will be much easier at RocketOwl.

I found RocketOwl very hard to find. Please make it clear that it is in the FarmBoy building. The map link you stored is not that building, but the Starbucks on the corner, 500m away, so you might want to store the link by address instead.

The space was not particularly bigger than ModLab. It was nice to be able to sit in a circle. The basement meant that there was no 3G reception, which is a bit annoying. Could an open wifi be made available?

Interesting! It gave a good perspective of where IoT can be used. But, how does Oracle Plan to monetize in the IoT space?

    October 21, 2013

    • Michael R.

Oracle will monetize from selling big backend systems to collect/analyze the data. Oracle/Sun/Java will monetize from being licensing their Java VM for the motes.

    Hello All,

Thanks for sharing your time last night! As a product designer I am always on the physical side of the equation. It was refreshing to hear what happens on the other side. I also heard some pretty interesting ideas that probably have some market viability. Don't hesitate to get in touch if you are interested in continuing the conversation! [masked]. Thanks Jacques!

I will be transiting via Blair station. It appears that walking to RocketOwl is most sane. I'll be the guy with the "Worlds Greatest Dad" hat.
