iPad and SDK 4.0 Announcement

Let's start the New Year with a Meetup on the very same day of the expected announcement by Apple of the over-hyped tablet and mega-rumoured iPhone SDK 4.0. Who knows, if we are lucky we'll learn more also about the uber-dreamed next-gen dual-core iPhone.

We'll meet and mingle at the Summer Shack bar in Alewife, steps from the Red Line subway and with plenty of parking. Looking forward to seeing you all! (did you guys know that ours is the 3rd largest iPhone meetup in the world?!?!?!)

In my opinion, the use case for the iPAD is as a cool networked, hi-res reader/entertainment/Internet device/phone for home or office. I do NOT see it replacing a lap top given that it is an oversized handheld device that requires two hands to drive (maybe Jobs needs a $49.99 iSTAND accessory for his iPAD???). At $199 I would consider buying a couple (think iTOUCH price point). At $499 (low end model) I will wait and see. Final note: if ATT is having difficulty provisioning iPHONES on its UMTS/HSDPA network, wait until they get a bunch of unlimited, all you can eat iPAD/iSTAND users on the same cell tower... 56KPS will look like manna from heaven. 4G/LTE to the rescue you say? ATT won't be ready until 2012 for most markets (VZW will be first to market and beat ATT by at least a year... or two). As Jobs will soon learn, "it's the network thing".... or MUCH better compression technology?
