Commonwealth Fair

Food - Music - Crafts from across the Commonwealth. The Caribbean is always well represented at this Fair with a great range of foods and drinks including Sorrel, Ginger Beer, Mauby and Cocoa Tea - not to mention the strong drinks including Rum Punch! There will be stalls from Barbados, Grenada, Jamaica, Trinidad, St Lucia to name but a few. Also sampling foods from other Commonwealth countries is definitely worth the experience.

Entrance is £5.00 Adults Children up to 12 years £3. Funds go to the Commonwealth Countries Education Fund

We could arrange to meetup at the Grenada food stall where I'll be wearing my Meetup badge.

Pity. I wonder how many people went to the Fair?

I know two members were at the meet up. Did anyone else go? Just curious to see how many went. I was at the Grenada food stall on and off as I also did quite a bit of walking about. Haven't put up any pics yet as I've been a bit rushed this week. Did I say "rushed this week"? Ha ha, more like rushed over the last two months!

I'm giving the Commonwealth four stars this year. It still was very good but not as good as last year. There seemed to be fewer stalls and in some cases the food was not up to standard. However for newbies I'm sure it was an experience so I mustn't moan.

Unfortunately I won't be able to make it to the Fair, just got too many things to do. I look forward to hearing all about it though, don't eat too much guys! ;)

A final word before later on today. I'll be wearing a black T shirt with the Meetup Logo and a Grenada baseball cap. If not at the Grenada food stall I'll be wandering around foraging.

As Kester has mentioned he'll be on the ground floor at the Grenada produce stall probably amongst the exotic tropical flowers.

      Two things you must do:

      1. The trick is to pace yourself. Circle the food stalls like a vulture making notes of the best ones and then swoop on stalls in order of preference. One word of warning - do not dawdle when it comes to the home made ice cream stall (queues build up rapidly) and also the cocoa tea which one of the islands had last year and I'm sure will again. The cocoa tea goes fast. Also highly recommended is the Pig Foot Souse which MIGHT be on the Barbados stall (it wasn't last year).

      2. Book into a gym for the following weeks!

The excitement is building and I am really looking forward to the event, so it better not disappoint (sorry!)
I can smell the fish frying with lots of onions, tomatoes, peppers and hot sauce all married in the pan, some greens steaming, corn cob on an open fire along with a whole breadfruit wrapped in foil, sweet bread filling the air with its freshly baked self, coconut cracking and mangoes, pawpaw, soursop all smiling back at me, then I spot the sorrel and mauby, decisions, decisions, decisions - Oh bring it on - DO!

You've got me hungry now, lol. On the Grenada Food Stall there will be Fried Fish with the usual yummy tomato, pepper and onion gravy. Also Fried Chicken, Curry Mutton, Salt Fish and Bakes, Saltfish Cake and lots more. There'll also be Coconut Tarts, Rum and Raisin Fudge made with real rum, Groundnut Cake, Chocolate Groundnut Cake and Guava Delight. But hurry as there is a limited stock!

As the them is Pumpkin this year for the Grenada Food Stall, there will be Pumpkin Soup, Pumpkin Cake and Pumpkin Pie.

You'll be able to buy mangoes, pawpaw and soursop from the Grenada stall on the ground floor plus ginger lilies and anthurium lilies for your living room.

I'm sure you will find on the other Caribbean stalls anything that that the Grenada stalls don't have.

Oh I forgot the Barbados Stall sometimes does Pig Foot Souse. For some reason they didn't do it last year so I hope they do it this year cos the Bajuns do the most wikd Pig Foot Souse!

As Frank has said I will be on the Grenada on the ground floor and you'll probably find me where the tropical flowers will be. If Frank is not around upstairs by the Grenada food stall then that means he's off to find some cocoa tea!

Say hi if you see me around.

The day is drawing near and I'm getting hungry thinking of all that food there with my name on it! I will be at the Grenada food stall which will be on the first floor. Kester (who is a member here) will be on the Grenada stall on the ground floor which sells products from Grenada including spices, soaps etc and Caribbean flowers. If anyone from other Caribbean countries know of their country's stalls feel free to give a description on this page.

We will meetup in the Food Hall section of the fair by the Grenada stall. I've not yet got details of the exact location of the stall. I will be there with some sort of Meetup ID. What time would be best for all? Or maybe can just turn up when they can and use the Grenada food stall as a meeting place? It's a big fair so I guess people will want to wander around.
