A round up of video available from OneWebDay-related events last and
this week, and news of events this weekend.

== One WebDay ==

A big thankyou to everyone that participated in OneWebDay on September
22nd! A very enjoyable day!

Greetings from both uptown and downtown contingents can be seen at

Video of Alex Goldman's excellent OneWebDay presentation at NYU, and
the ensuing discussion, is still being processed. However the text is
available: http://net-statis...

As part of OneWebday ISOC-NY sponsored the Open Hardware Summit at the
New York Hall of Science on Sep 23. This was a very interesting event
- the first of it's kind - attracting top kit designers to the effort
to define appropriate licenses and standards. There is still debate on
the favored term - 'Open Hardware' or 'Open Source Hardware' - the
former might have the slight upper hand. ISOC-NY recorded the event,
and audio can be found at http://www.isoc-n...

On Sep 24/25, also as part of OneWebDay, ISOC-NY members participated
in the Innovate/Activate Intellectual Property Activism Unconference
at New York Law School. net Society, and also his background in punk
rock. (Video:) - (Silverlight required). Then
in the Saturday unconference sessions Joly expanded on the same theme
(no video at present) and new ISOC-NY director Glover Wright gave a
talk on his efforts this past summer promoting open government data
initiatives in India. http://www.youtub...

OneWebDay London took the form of a major INET conference at which the
Internet Society launched a new campaign to promote public awareness
of threats to the open Internet. Four animated videos illustrate the
various possible scenarios that people should be concerned about. See
them, and add your own comments, at

== Broadband comes to Harlem ==

Speaking of uptown, their is a public meeting on Friday in Harlem to
discuss the National Broadband Plan - and what it means for the local
community. Keynote Speaker is FCC Commissioner Mignon Clyburg. There
will be a speakers from the NTIA and plenty of Q&A.

What: Broadband comes to Harlem

== Open Video Conference ==

This weekend Oct 1-2 the second annual Open Video Conference will
happen at The Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC. While concerned
with online video the conference will grapple with the larger
questions of mass media, participatory culture, and the state of
freedom and openness online. Registration is still open: Student (with
valid ID) $35, Non-Profit/Individual $75. If you can't make it there
will be live webcasts, but you'll miss all the schmoozing and the
schwag! Worth checking out right now is their 3 part stage setting
interview with Susan Crawford at
http://www.openvi... - follow the links
there for more info.

The "capstone" of the OVC will be the MemeFactory from 9-11pm on
Saturday - a follow up to last year's very successful NYU event
celebrating state-of-the-art viral culture. It's not clear if one can
gain access to this without registering - if we learn more our info
page at http://www.isoc-n... will be updated accordingly.
