14-year-old Lorenzo (Jacopo Olmo Antinori) is an overly self-conscious boy who decides to skip a week-long class ski trip and holes himself up in his family basement. He is soon stumbled upon by his twenty-something half-sister Olivia (Tea Falco), who promises not to give away his hiding place and even helps him cover his tracks. But rather than leaving him alone, she confesses that she’s been struggling with heroin addiction, and she decides the basement is a safe place to start her cold-turkey detox. Together the estranged siblings confront their complex emotions and family history that have affected them both in different ways.
Working with two energetic newcomers, Italian auteur Bernando Bertolucci returns after a 10-year filmmaking hiatus with a fresh and poignant tale of two siblings grappling with their changing identities.
