Italian Meetup : Giochiamo a Tombola (Or Maybe Scopa)

UPDATE, 8 January 2013: Instead of Tombola we may play Scopa, an equally fun game that is also often played in Italian households over the holiday season. It's a traditional card game played with a special deck. Don't worry if you've never played -- it's easy to learn and, besides, we are playing for fun.

But if anyone has a Tombola set they can bring, let us know asap and we can play that.

--------------------------------------

The past two years our January Meetup has consisted of game-playing -- specifically, the Italian bingo-like game of chance called Tombola. So we're continuing the tradition.

It's common in Italy to play Tombola during the holiday season. Technically the holidays end on January 6. Oh well.

In addition to experiencing some Italian culture, the game is a great way to review numbers in Italian. If you've never played, don't worry. It's very easy to learn and we'll review the rules beforehand.

Afterwards, there will be time for general chit-chat, so think about something you might like to talk about.

Please note the Library's parking restrictions:  Meeting attendees are encouraged to carpool whenever possible and must park in areas other than the three library parking lots, with the exception of those with handicap parking permits.

Thank you, Cheryl for putting the Scopa packets together! And thanks to all the organizers. It was really enjoyable to play Scopa.

Sorry gang, I will be late. Don't use up all the Scopa before I get there.

How long do the meetings typically run? I'll be ducking out a little earlier from work but want to be able to make it for my first meetup.

The Library closes at 9:00 so we'll be done by then. In general, a Meetup is 1-1/2 to 2 hours. Ci vediamo.

January 8 is the day I beg to get into Italian 1101 at OSU through program 60. It seems on waitlist. Any tips on getting allowed to audit would be so very welcome!

First prize will not compare to the Super Lotto, but we'll have something of interest!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
