Thousands of girls disappear every year, kidnapped by organized crime. They travel on cargo ships, are hidden on busses, are sold in pubs which are managed by the masters of drug-dealing, or are auctioned in the slums of cities across the world.
"Animelle! 1 Euro per Pound" investigates the theme of prostitution (exploitation, trade, violence against women). Prostitution, that is, not only intended in a sexual contest, but more so as the objectification of the self in order to obtain a specific scope. "Is everything really on sale today?" The conviction that nowadays everything can be commercialized.
The show is the crude image of our world, the desperate chant of these fragile souls that falter between dreams and death. Marco, Italian, is the merchant. He is the one who enslaves and sells his "merchandise?. Nicol, Linn and Kjuscha are the three prostitutes - the victims in this story. In an undefined setting, a flat-screen tv, two mattresses and a functioning cooking burner give life to an intendedly gaunt scene in which the actors give life to the characters.
"Animelle! 1 euro per pound" is a jab in the stomach that reaches straight through to the heart, with the absence of any type of sugar-coating or flattery to look to as to find a justification for such a business, which today profits more than that of drugs. Every character in the show pours his or her own story giving more importance to gestures rather than words. This is a show which is aesthetic rather than wordy, poetic in form and violent in its means of accusation.
The show is written and directed by Rocco Ricciardulli, by the Company KOR, with Man-Lo Zhang, M. Kovacevic, N. Lyubchenko, R. Ricciardulli.?
