Buongiorno tutti membri.

For those who are interested, there will be an unveiling of a new mosaic for the Italian Centre North store this week.  Some details are noted below:

Lttle Italy's newest residents are ten feet tall, made of thousands of bits of glass and set to pretty up our City. Three voluptuous Tuscan beauties carrying a bounty of harvested grapes, olive oil and wheat are the main feature of a new mosaic to be unveiled by The Italian Centre Shop's owner Teresa Spinelli and other dignitaries on Friday July 6th at 10 am. Improvement Program.  The 63 ft. square mosaic took two months to make out of twelve thousand 'tesserae'.

The mosaic, affectionately called 'The Italian Job' by the artist's creator, will be named by public competition. Entry rules and prizes will be announced at the Unveiling/Media Conference.

RSVP - Teresa Spinelli[masked] [address removed]

DATE - Friday July 6th, 2012, 10 am.

EVENT - 10.05 am Quick Speech. 10.15 am Unveiling.10.25 am Refreshments .

WHERE - Italian Centre Shop, North Wall,[masked] St, T5H 2E4.

The design is inspired by a mural hung fifty year's ago by Teresa's father Franco in his campaign to lift a Provincial ban on homemade wine. (Photo above). The words on the wall, "You can make wine, but cannot keep it," refers to a Prohibition-era ban on storing alcohol. Thanks to his efforts, homebrewing has been legal since 1964.

Artist Theodora Harasymiw, suggested the mosaic to Teresa four years ago, when they and their sons met at a baby yoga class. "Of the many suggestions for that wall-an electronic sign, supplier's logos, I knew it needed something special. Ceramic art work IS SPECIAL," beams Teresa. The mural qualifies for the City's Facade and Storefront
