Please introduce yourself?

Hi, I'm David Barter. I'm an interaction designer from SFU's program that loves to research, conceptualize and innovate in design concepts. I'm interested in tangible and wearable interfaces, and love the aspects of design that help people!

What brings you to IxDA Vancouver?

The opportunity to network and learn from members of my discipline in my area. I have already been a member of IxDA outside of Meetup for over a year, and I have attended several of the events hosted by the group.

What are your 'hot topics' or things you'd like to learn more about?

I want to learn more about what avenues and resources exist for finding fulfilling work in the areas I'm interested in. Everything, especially in Vancouver, seems to be so software focused, and the job offerings here, from what I've seen, amount to little more than designing the architecture of websites and apps. That is certainly interesting in some cases, depending on the company and projects, but I don't see it as my greatest passion, or particularly want a long-term career in this area (I did that at RIM for 4 months, eventually became very repetitive). I want to find out where the most interesting work is being done, and what steps I need to take to prepare myself to move into a career in this fascinating area!
