I founded IxDA Vancouver in 2008 with the goal of opening up the dialog and creating an opportunity for connections and discussions within our vibrant local industry. I like birds and fishing.
The lot in life of an IxD within smaller firms or satellite industries can be a solitary one, with little chance to have passionate discussions regarding the deeper tenets of what it is we do. The global IxDA association was and is a valuable source of inspiration and support, but there wasn't anything locally set up where the discourse and discussions could be more freeform, face to face and interactive. I hope for this local IxDA group to continue to be that and more. For anybody that has been to any of the conferences, they know that there's a undeniable pump that resonates within oneself for some time after the event is over. A buzz, a renewal of energy, a multifaceted burst of inspirational ideas and new concepts. We shouldn't have to wait for a year to get another dose of that, and I hope for the local group to be the booster shot.
The ubiquity of 'smart devices' is exploding into all corners of our lives, and the opportunities for societal betterment presented by this are limitless. I am very interested in how we as Designers can take advantage of this transmedial connection to affect a positive change in the singular personal lives of people and their community as a whole.
