Japanese-English Language Exchange

  • Mar 24, 2013 · 2:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

I've been getting a lot of request, as well as hearing members wanting a language exchange. So, to answer to those request, I am hosting a English+Japanese Language Exchange event!

It will be at a cafe in downtown Vancouver, right by the Public Library. Please thank Edward+Cherry for letting us use their cafe! Since I am reserving the cafe for this event, please order at least one drink (or food) to support the cafe.
Otherwise, this event is FREE.

This will be very casual. I will break up the group into 2 groups.
Group A: those that are wanting to learn/improve English + native English speakers that want to teach English
Group B: those that are wanting to learn/improve Japanese + native Japanese speakers that want to teach Japanese

I wont have any teaching material, so bring a pen, paper, electronic dictionary, ipad/tablet, textbook/mag to help with your learning/teaching! It will be about 2 hours. You're welcome to continue to teach/converse after that, but the cafe will close at 4pm, so you will have to relocate.

See you then!

My granddaughter lives in Nagoya. My Japanese skills are poor though I have had lessons and have visited Nagoya 3 times. My son's in-laws do not speak English. I hope with this group to be able to converse with my Japanese family and If anyone wants to learn some Norwegian I can help.

I think that one on ones are the best way to practise conversation and study, but it was enjoyable anyway. Maybe having some turnaround after an hour might have made it even better.

one on one: we were running low on topic after 1.5 hr but both one on one and group is good. :)

    • Seiko

Ah...ok, so changing members around after 1 hour might be a good idea then. I see I see.

What is the current ratio of en/jp speakers? It'd help if it was close to 1...

    P!

    March 21, 2013

    • Seiko

Unfortunately, I don't know the ratio...I think it's the first time that Jmeetup is hosting something like this. I hope the ratio will be closer...but I'm sure you'll be able to learn and have fun at the same time! :D
Plz suggest and give feedback after the event so we can make future similar events better! Thanks! ありがとう!

am I on a wait list

    February 28, 2013

    • Seiko

Yes, you're currently on the waiting list. If someone cancels, members on the waiting list will be bumped up into the 'going' list in order. You should receive an email then, indicating that you are able to come.

  • Janet Y.

I might bring 1-2 guest. I have 1-2 Japanese friend that is interested in the exchange but I'll have to ask them first. when is the latest I can let you know tha actual guest I'm bringing?

    February 28, 2013

    • Seiko

Hi Janet. For this event, it's pretty laid back, so if you can update your friends rsvp as soon as you know to let others on the waiting list come, that'd be great. There's no specific deadline. Thanks!
