chawanmushi, sushi, miso soup
My parents are Japanese immigrants from Okinawa, but I was born in Canada. Although the first language I learned was Japanese, I rarely get an opportunity to speak it anymore. My interest in Japan grew after I visited relatives living there, and I ended up learning more about my parents' culture.
Fluent in speaking Japanese (casual conversation level). Reading is basic (hiragana, katakana, simple kanji). Writing is poor, and in serious need of practice!
I hope to meet people that I can have interesting conversations with, both in Japanese and English, to share and improve my knowledge about the two countries. Also, in my experience, if I stop using my Japanese for an extended period it starts to go away, so I'd like to retain as much as I can.
I'm a Japanese Canadian trying to connect with my roots, and learn more about my parents' culture. Looking forward to meeting you all, and making new friends along the way!!
