What's your favourite Japanese food?

Anything but konyaku. I learned to cook Japanese food mostly from Elizabeth Andoh's books.

How did you become interested in Japan and its language?

The food, the religion, the culture... Once upon a time I knew a couple hundred Chinese characters which helps when learning Kanji.

What is your level of proficiency with spoken and written Japanese?

What do you hope to achieve through your membership with this group?

Improve conversation skills.

I've been studying Japanese on my own for about 2.5 years now, which works great for reading, writing, and listening, but not so good for speaking. I spent two weeks in Japan last April, doing the tourist thing and travelling by Shinkansen.
