  • Jun 13, 2009 · 5:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

This is a great opportunity to see an Obon Festival in summer in Arizona. Sorry it's last minute! Let's see if we can meet more members. Shall we wear yukata? There will be a dinner at 5, and dancing starts at 6:30. Bentos must be reserved by Thursday the 11th. I have not been here, but let's go check it out. Thanks again Tim and Hazuki for finding this event!

For our first time at this event, and first time visiting the Arizona Buddhist Temple in Phoenix, we had no idea of how things would be. We had a great time with all the members who joined us tonight! The Obon dancing was not quite what we expected, but it was nice. Overall it was a great time, met one new member, and the only thing that could have made it better would be if they had food booths and beer booths there.

I danced, looked at cute Japanese girls, and took lots of cool photos. If anybody wants to see the pictures from my digital camera, they're online:

Amazing! I had no idea this stuff existed in Phoenix. Some sights: Geta, yukata, happi coats, somen, bentos, uchiwa. Ikuyo got Jpn. dishes super cheap. I had to lug them around for her. I feel like were bonding as a group!

Tamara, i know we've never met before yet, but since we're picking up Alex and Scott to go to Obon Fest, and i noticed that you live in Mesa also, do you need a ride?

we called the temple again and left a message for reserving 8 bentos. Alex, can you send us a message with your address if you want us to pick you up? thx. if you live east of Scott, we will pick you up first, be ready by 4:15 ok?

Ikuyo is coming?? Hazuki says "Yay!" =) Hazuki might need help to put on her yukata properly. (i'm trying to convince her to wear it) i might be wearing my jinbei, which i bought in Japan and have never worn yet.

and i guess we should pick a place and time for everybody to meet when they get to the temple? how about 5:00 at the front door of the temple?

    June 11, 2009

  • Tim808

OK Scott, pick you up at 4:30. and Alex, if you want to ride with, can you be there at Scott's house also? thx!
We called the temple to reserve 5 bentos, and left a message. Hopefully somebody will call us back! But i'm sure if we get there before the bentos are all gone, we just need to pay when we get it.
Is everybody going to wear their yukata or kimono? =)
