Natto Party

While normal Japanese food is a treat, homemade Japanese food will be an event; indeed, that is in this vain that we have decided upon this meetup. A few of our native members have decided to produce some of the infamous fermented soybean dish known as natto.

Now, I know what you're thinking, probably something along the lines of “Natto!?”. Let me tell you, that is exactly what this is. There are three types of people, those who know what natto is and have tasted it, those who know what natto is and have not tasted it, and those who are ignorant to its existence.

If you are in the latter two groups of people, then let me explain something to you. Natto is one of the healthiest foods in the world, this stuff will lower your cholesterol, prevent blood clotting, give you tons of vitamins, and serve as an excellent protein source. The benefit of these beans are so well, there's a full section in the encyclopedia of wikipedia covering its effects on health.

By participating this event of Japanese cuisine, you will be taking part in a Japanese tradition reaching as far back as the Edo period. To stay ignorant of this tradition would be to abstain from the food of Japan itself. So join us and prepare for your eventual homecoming to Japan! While other foreigners are content to be mediocre, you will stay above the rest with your exquisite knowledge of the Japanese. You will take one more step away from your label as a gaijin!

This event is being hosted by our very own member, Mike, at his apartment. As such I must regrettably limit this event to 7 persons.

(thanks Alex for the write up)

I had fun watching Alex,Scott, and Mike eating natto.
We can find a better Japanese food for them to eat next time.
But we had a good laugh from each of their puzzled faces...omoshrokatta.

The Natto party was GREAT! Of course the Natto itself was only just edible, haha, but the company was really fun. Thanks everybody who helped create that awful Natto concoction! I had a great time.

I really want to go, but I'm not sure if everyone would appreciate me bringing my two little kids (age 2 & 3). Would anyone be adversed to me bringing them? I won't be offended if so.

After talking to Mike, we decided we can have more people. So no more waiting list. But please do not bring your guests and we will just get together with our members. Mike will have some drinks but please bring your favorite drinks for yourself and maybe some dish or desert. We will have Natto and rice. That is all.

Alex, someone should pay you to make jury duty sound this interesting!

Carol, feel free to bring Ikuyo and yourself to fill the last spots, I know you two showed interest at Akai Hana the other day. Also, didn't Ikuyo want to make some Natto too? It is your destiny!

If no one else signs up, I'll take Ikuyo. Depending if she's up for it at the time.

Mike, what's your limit. I'm getting positive feedback.

That Alex is a real riot! Are you coming? I can't imagine a "crowd" of people wanting to eat natto, but if it fills up and someone really wants to try it i can give up my seat. Stuff makes me nauseous just looking at it! :)

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
