Speak Japanese

GROUP RULE:

No speaking English allowed other than asking questions or explaining the grammar or vocabulary. You won't get thrown out if you keep talking in English. But, if it starts to get long, let's remind each other to speak in Japanese in Japanese; にほんごで おねがいします, which means "In Japanese, please". That is a great practice in itself.

NOTE 1:

They have a wide variety of delicious vegetarian food selection at the restaurant. If you aren't hungry, there's no need to order food there. But, they do ask us to purchase at least a drink or some small item to show respect to their hospitality.

NOTE 2:

When you click on the link "Mr. Natural", the Google Map shows a place in Spain. We are not meeting in Barcelona. The address of Mr. Natural is correct so please copy and paste for the directions/map on Google Map.

About The Meeting:
I teach private Japanese lessons here in Austin and I host these Japanese conversation practice meetings. We'll be focusing mainly on speaking, not explaining grammar and so forth. However, I encourage you to bring a pen and paper and take notes and ask as many questions as you like. Even if you're just starting out and don't have much confidence saying very simple things, don't feel intimidated. Come practice saying those things that you CAN! Set yourself a goal to learn at least one new word/expression and to use it when you come back the week after.

If you can't read hiragana, this meeting may not be for you, but you are welcome to come anyway. And, you are always welcome to contact me for private lessons so you can speak a lot more at these meetings!

Again I had a great time. This group is awesome. I love everybody's eagerness to speak Japanese. I don't know much about new anime but I have some recommendation for anime fans. If you haven't seen Lupin the third, The Castle of Cagliostro, please check it out. I loved Lupin (TV or movies). This is one of the masterpiece of Japanese anime in my opinion. Urusei Yatsura was anothe one of my favorites. I am revealing my age by listing ancient anime, but the modern anime producers grew up watching these old ones and inspired by them. Check them out!

Since we have many people studied computer science or IT in the group, my friend in Tokyo asked me to post this for him. He is hiring a bilingual onsite Linux tech support. When I asked a bit more info., he sent me the following message.

We deal with a lot of multinationals and occasionally have openings for infrastructure or data center personnel. The easiest placements would be JLPT 2 and above, and yes, most of our positions require reading and writing, at least at an email level, and reading 設計書 and other technical documents, whose format tends to be fairly standard. If anyone is interested, please contact me.

    Thank you!
