Get together to enjoy the language.

Something a bit farther north than the usual meetup, in case there are any other interested parties this far out. I don't have a specific place in mind, just somewhere in Humble; Cafe East will do for now, just to get this started.

Thank you for moving the meet ups around a bit to share the commute. I live north and drive quite a distance to get to most meets. Thanks Akira

Hi, I'm new to the group, I should be able to go unless something comes up.

I can't attend unless it's a Wednesday or Thursday: I work the weekends. And Wednesdays would be better. The location, though, is ideal.

I too recieved a similar reply The "Houston Japanese Language Meetup Group", after stating that I also take private lessons twice a week. I study daily! My response was rude and a little full of himself.

Your request to join Houston Japanese Language Meetup Group was declined. Will never be interested in meeting with this group.

    > Jeri, The vast majority of students at the JASH classes never get to basic conversation level (i.e. JLPT level n3, equivalent to 2 years of college Japanese classes, about 900 hours total study). The JASH classes just don't require that students study at nearly the level required. If you are one of the rare exceptions, please clearly indicate your JLPT level and reapply. It only takes a few minutes on the JLPT WWW site looking at the example tests to understand your approximate JLPT level.

    Shocked beyond words...
I attempted to join the "Houston Japanese Language Meetup Group" and got a most "discouraging" reply from the organizer Steven W Johnston. First he declined my request to join and his reply was...

"The materials on the WWW are trash. It makes no sense to use such materials because it takes so much time and effort to learn Japanese. "Free" on the WWW is not a reason to use junk. The WWW materials are a waste of your time. The normal college textbooks and recordings are carefully designed over decades to be the best way to learn Japanese. If you really want to learn Japanese, you should use those materials and not the junk on the WWW. I recommend the same materials used at Rice. The Rice classes are the only one in Houston that consistently teach people to actually speak Japanese."

I don't know if he had a bad day or that he's a fascist bigot. I never reject usable advice so I will take his suggestions, but I don't want to know this person.

This is kinda far from me. I live in Montgomery so if yall ever get something closer please let me know. My mother is from Okinawa and my dad was from Louisiana, and I do speak Japanese so it will be great to meet up and polish my Japanese as the saying goes if you don't use it you will lose it!
