Setsubun at the Mermaid

Kimono Rosy (not self-named!) is organizing a Setsubun Festival at the Mermaid Tavern in Seminole Heights (Tampa) on the evening of Monday Feb 3rd.  Setsubun is the old Japanese Lunar New Year festival.  It's still celebrated as a spring festival in Japan!

Come dressed in crazy costumes--there will be a costume contest with prizes.  We'll do mame-maki "bean-throwing" outside in the parking lot.  So if your car has any evil spirits, this should take care of them!

You can also volunteer to perform short comedy sketches or dances, just like Setsubun parties in Kyoto.   If you've done something like this for an Anime convention, that's what she has in mind.  OR...maybe you're more into traditional comedy or entertainment--how about a shamisen number or a brief rakugo performance?  ^_^  (Rakugo is Japanese comedic storytelling, like stand up comedy, but done sitting.)

For the comedy skits & performances, please send submissions to [masked] by the weekend of Feb. 1st and 2nd.

The Mermaid Tavern is a smoke free pub with a bar that serves beer, wine, and sake. (They serve non-alcoholic drinks and tea too!) They have a wonderful dinner menu of gourmet organic food, so people can always come early (open at 5 p.m.) and eat and relax before the
festivities.

Just wanted to add that there will be professional dancers at the event. They are some truly talented gals who are interpreting the themes of Setsubun through their own original choreography. I know it's a Monday but what better way to start out the week than having a zashiki? Please put on your best Halloween or cosplay costume or traditional garb, come out, have some sake, throw some beans, and celebrate!

Rosy, by the way says THANKS too. Yes, the 5-panel screen would be wonderful. I think she's going to use her Art Teacher abilities for the rest of it. (^_^)

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
