Orlando Japan Festival

A fun festival that we visit every year! There's always taiko and shamisen by Matsuriza, traditional dance and music by Kodomo Buyo-kai / Wakafuji-kai and Yoshino-kai, martial arts and tea ceremony demonstrations, cosplay, delicious food, and many vendors including those great deals at the Mitsukoshi bazaar.

Special Koto Perfomance by Masayo Ishigure Picture

She has been featured in two public television broadcasts, Music Under New York, and World of Music. In 1997, she recorded koto music for CBS Master Work for use during the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics. She has recorded koto music for use in several television commercials.

She recorded music for the soundtrack of the movie "Memoirs of a Geisha" by John Williams in 2005 along with Yitzhak Perlman, Yo Yo Ma, and others.

Hey bro, Esther said something about the clock tower and meeting at 1145. It should be one of the first few posts.

    Any info about parking?

    October 29, 2012

    • Esther (.

It's a fancy shopping plaza so there will be lots of free parking both in front of and behind the festival site.

I would like to attend the event wearing Yukata. I'm really sad I don't have a car...
if possible, could anyone living neat the USF give me a ride and go together?><

Hi Megumi! I can give you a ride! Email me and we can talk about the details! Do you still have the business card that I gave you from last month's tsudoi?

Hi Esther, I'm not sure what time I'll arrive it all depends on my the friends I'm going with. I'm 2 hours from Orlando so I don't if I'll be there before 12pm. But I'll look for you at the club booth.

Looking forward to seeing you! Remember it's the Orlando J.Club booth. If you look for Tampa Japanese Meetup, you won't find it. (^_~) I'm a member of Teri Mitchell-san's (Terue Shoji) J.Club, so that's why you'll find me there.

We could meet at 11:45 at the Clocktower...does that sound good? I've uploaded a photo of me from a different festival...but I plan to wear that same yukata: http://www.meetup.com/japanese-571/photos/11033802/

About the Clocktower. The Village at Hunter's Creek has a little park in the middle of the shops--that's where this festival takes place. Near the main parking area there's a clocktower on the "green." On the opposite end of the park is the performance stage, by the rear parking lot.

I'll hang around by the Clocktower from 11:45 'til just before the Opening Ceremonies begin. If you miss me there and want to meet, just drop by the Orlando J.Club booth. I'm usually around there if I'm not running around spending money. J.Club's booth will be near Yayoi Kimono, Rising Sun Dojo, and Asia Trend Magazine. Teri-san (J.Club Founder & President) is friends with all those people, so we always form a little block party!

Is there going to be a time/location at the festival that we can meet others from the group?

    October 2, 2012

  • Cathy

So Sorry, could not attend. It's been a busy summer. Hope to see everyone soon.

Cathy! It will be nice to see you again! We missed you at Ron's last dinner. Sugako-san's Mom was looking forward to a chat with your Mom too.

I am planning to bring my two younger sisters with me when I visit the festival since we all share a common interest: love of new foods and Asian cultures. :)
