In the 70-80's I could make my way through a non-technical or overly political newspaper article. Due to long periods of absence from Japan in last 10 years, proficiency has slipped to making my way through the occasional enka-karoake melody.
Off and on since 1972, I lived 26 years in Japan: three years each in Tokyo and Okinawa, and 20 years in Aomori Ken no Misawa-shi.
I like pretty much like everything "Japanese": onsens, shopping in Akihabara, the Bullet Train, teaching English, the people, yakitori, 12-day New Years celebration, the Red & White (Kohaku Uta Gassen) Song Battle, hot sake, the seasons, enka and original karaoke, returning "home" through Narita or Haneda by flying over the white snow of Mt Fuji, rice 24/7, competing in the international snow carving contest at the Sapporo Snow Festival, the annual showing of "47 Ronin"...Mmmm, did I mention SAKE-lol
New to Tampa, love most things "Japanese"
