I am looking forward to tomorrow's meetup - 14 people have said yes!
On a related note, this weekend I received the email below - a non-profit might need a grails expertise to guide their developers. If you think you fit the profile please email me.
More generally, I am trying to launch an initiative to get IT vendors and professionals to donate/volunteer to help other non-profits with similar IT needs - https://sites.google.com/a/chrisrichardson.net/itaidforhaiti/
. Please let me know if you can help with that effort in any way.
The guys over at Partners In Health (who administer health facilities in Haiti) are in crisis mode at the moment, as they coordinate the movements of people and cargo. As this is not their business-as-usual activity, they are struggling with their systems, and are currently running on a spreadsheet model.
They have a team of Java devs who are considering writing a small system to help with these logistics / flight planning problems. They are considering doing it in Grails, as this could be quicker to get up and running.
Although they are great Java devs, I thought it couldn't hurt to have an experienced grails dev working with them, just to be sure they take the paths of least resistance, and don't spend their time fighting against the framework.
I was wondering whether you could recommend someone who might be able to give a couple of hours a day for the next week or two, in the event that the decision is made to go ahead with the custom development. Any thoughts or suggestions would be welcomed.
