jQuery Animated Menu and Beginner's Intro to jQuery, Part 2

jQuery Animated Menu

Brad Balduff will be presenting a project that he's been working on incorporating an animated jQuery menu into a website. The menu uses a combination of JavaScript for functionality, jQuery for the effects and CSS for styling.

Beginner's Intro to jQuery, Part 2 by Natalie MacLees

This will be the second part of a beginner's introduction to jQuery aimed at absolute beginners. This series will continue throughout 2013. In the first part, we learned how to get set up to use jQuery in a project and learned about jQuery's ready() method. Now in the second part, we'll take a look at querying the DOM and events.

About Natalie MacLees

In addition to being the founder and organizer of the jQuery LA meetup group, Natalie is a front-end web developer and UI designer and is founder + principal of the interactive agency, Purple Pen Productions. In 2012 she published jQuery for Designers with Packt Publishing. Together with Noel Saw she heads up the Southern California WordPress User’s Group, organizing WordPress meetups, help sessions, and workshops. In 2010, she worked as technical reviewer on WordPress 3 Complete by April Hodge Silver. She makes her online home at nataliemac.com.

Parking and Location

Plentiful parking is available at the Howard Hughes Promenade across the street for a $2. Avoid the parking structure behind 6080 Center Drive - it's crazy expensive.

I like the presentation. Do you have the source code example available for review somewhere? I caught most of it. But, I would like to review the material again at a later date. thnx.

Just found out my hosting company is going out of business so I have to move all my sites to a different server space. Hopefully I can rejoin for Part 3.

Can the presenter give a brief synopsis of part 1? I had missed that meetup, since I only discovered the group only a few days ago. -- Thnx in adv.

Hey! Since I was not a part of Beginner's Intro to jQuery, is it alright for me to attend it. Though I would be wanting to, as I know about jQuery a little, if not much. What fascinates is that it’s cost free and would be continued throughout 2013. Also, when Natalie says that she would review the previous part in this too before she starts with DOM, I hope I would be able to catch up with it soon. I am going to attend it folks!

Hi - Is there a webcast or a list of topics from part 1? I just want to make sure I'm that info covered as I missed part 1. Thanks

Is part II going to be longer than 10mins? I'm driving a fair distance.

      March 4, 2013

    • Natalie M.

Yes, it will be longer than 10 minutes. I'm also looking for one-three other speakers to present as well, and of course, we'll have open networking, answering questions, giving advice, etc. as always.

Hi Natalie, thanks for this event, and I second Evan's question as to whether there is a webcast I can review. If not, I hope going through something like the following is adequate to equip me to tackle Part 2: http://www.w3schools.com/jquery/default.asp

    • Natalie M.

Part 1 was only 10 minutes or so and covered hooking jQuery up to your page and using the ready() method - both things that I'll review in part 2.

You might ought to take a look at the jQuery section at www.codeacademy.com. it's free and great.
