From Mobile Website to Mobile App

In this talk we will explore ways to turn your mobile website into an iPhone or Android app. We begin by taking a look at the most well known cross platform framework, PhoneGap. We will learn what it is and isn't and see what it is like to set it up and the challenges it presents. Then we will look at a relatively new platform, Icenium. Like PhoneGap, it is based on Apache Cordova, but it offers a different and more complete development environment. Finally, if time permits, we will take a look at Windows 8 development. Window 8 offers an HTML/CSS/JavaScript development environment which is easy for traditional web devs to learn and master.

I am not a web developer (programmed with C# on small apps), but I thoroughly enjoyed the presentation, which is a credit to Troy. Thank you, Natalie for organizing this event, and thank you, Troy for being a great lecturer.

Thank you. I have a lot planned for the class. Working to trim the material down to fit in 9 hours + plus creating material for the attendees to take home - including all of the source code. I hope to make this the training session I always wished to attend.

Hi Simon, I am going to do my best to make this session for web developers not code geeks like me. The only assumption that I will make is that you know how to put together a website. From there I will explain how to use that knowledge to build mobile apps. I will also provide working sample code to get everyone started. In the end I think everyone will find that it is actually easier to build a mobile app than it is a website. So I hope you will reconsider and join us.
