Since I am not absolutely sure I can make it, I will cancel so someone else can take my spot and have time to read a book for this meeting.

Chris, I downloaded it- since it was free, and it is only 92 pages on the Kindle Reader, so easy to read as an extra selection.

I'm still planning to read War Letters which I bought in paper format, but wanted to let people know the Letters of a Woman Homesteader is available for free download in electronic format on Amazon Kindle Apps.

Marianne, I think the "Letters of John and Abigail Adams" is an excellent choice. There are two different volumes available containing their letters and I believe there are differences in which letters each contains. The reference above is to the older published volume of letters. I read Professor Ellis' excellent book "First Family" which he based on his research and study of their correspondence when it came out a year or two ago- after I heard NPR featuring Ellis" book. Since the couple was geographically separated during such a large part of their marriage, lived during the turbulent times of the American revolution and its preceding events , and because the family included two presidents of the early republic, I'm sure their actual letters would make really interesting reading.

As always, I am happy to add a book that fits into the meeting's theme on the recommendation of any member who has attended at least two meetings. I do reserve the prerogative to veto a choice if I don't think it's suitable, which would usually be because the choice seems ideologically divisive and this is not Fight Club.
