Talk about vaguely Valentine-ish books about love, romance, marriage & sex

Shy persons, fear not...we're keeping it PG-13 with fiction and nonfiction swirling around these topics. In keeping with the month, the books focus more or less on relationships.

The list so far, subject to modification, suggestions welcome:

Fiction:

Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter

Hateship, Friendship, Courtship, Loveship, Marriage: Stories by Alice Munro

Nonfiction:

The Commitment: Love, Sex, Marriage, and My Family by Dan Savage
Marriage, a History: How Love Conquered Marriage
by Stephanie Coontz

This Is the Story of a Happy Marriage by Ann Patchett

I am out of town that weekend. Is it possible to select a book and attend the follow up meeting?

    January 3, 2014

    • Anne

Anna, yes, it's always possible to bring up a book from a prior month's list, members have done that several times and it's fine.

Another fiction suggestion - Private Life by Jane Smiley -

    January 3, 2014

    • Anne

Cindy, I love Jane Smiley although I haven't read Private Life. I will definitely read up on it and consider adding it.

      January 4, 2014

  • Terry C.

How about adding Amir Levine's Attached: The New Science of Adult Attachment and How It Can Help YouFind .. and Keep .. Love (nonfiction) and as a counterpoint Eric Klinenberg's Going Solo: The Extraordinary Rise and Surprising Appeal of Living Alone (nonfiction)

    1 · January 3, 2014

    • Anne

Terry, we used Going Solo last year, but I have no problem with recycling, especially since several members liked it quite a bit the first time around. I will definitely look into Attached. I'll be updating next month's list next week to accommodate suggestions.
